Over 50 participants graced the first Mayor Jerry P. Treñas Inland Fishing Tournament that was held at the La Paz lagoon last September 28, 2019.
Being the first inland fishing tournament by the Iloilo city government, Executive Assistant for Sports Rudiver Jungco Sr. was pleased and thankful for those who supported the event.
“Sadya gid ang natabo sang Sabado. Over singkwenta ka mga pumuluyo sang Iloilo ang nagpa-La Paz kag nag-intra sa aton fishing tournament kag grabe gid ang kalipay ko in behalf of the Iloilo City government and the Iloilo City Sports and Development Division,” Jungco told Daily Guardian.
Marvin Balenia won 5th place honors, Sherwin Balenia was 4th, Jesus Alcain was 3rd, Rodolfo Superal was 2nd, and the champion was Rodolfo Bayotas.
5th and 4th placers were awarded 500 pesos cash prize, 3rd placer with 1,000 pesos, 2nd with 2,000 pesos and the champion with 3,000 pesos.
The fishing enthusiasts caught Tilapia mostly, with the winner’s catch weighing over 1 kilo.
