A 16-year-old girl survived after jumping off the Sibalum Bridge in Poblacion, Leon, Iloilo.
The victim, a high school student, is being treated at the Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian town.
She suffered injuries on the back portion of her head and legs. She also sustained abrasions on the different parts of her body.
Lieutenant Melchor Tolentino, Leon police chief, said a caller informed the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) about seeing someone jumping off the bridge.
“She fell from a height of 50 feet. It was nothing short of a miracle that she survived with non-life-threatening injuries,” he said.
Tolentino said the victim fell on sandy soil and not on the rocky portion of the river.
It remains unclear what triggered the girl to commit such an act.
“We have yet to talk to her father but it’s an apparent case of attempted suicide,” Tolentino said.
