BACOLOD CITY – A tragic incident unfolded last Thursday as a 12-year-old boy drowned in the Reclamation area of Barangay 1 Poblacion, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
The identity of the victim, a Grade 7 student from Barangay DSB, has been withheld by the police. Police Lieutenant Darryl Kuhutan, the deputy chief of Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, reported that the boy had gone swimming with two friends after school that afternoon. Approximately an hour into their swim, they noticed him struggling in the water.
Kuhutan explained that although the victim’s friends attempted a rescue, the strong current thwarted their efforts. They then sought assistance from bystanders, but unfortunately, the boy was carried off by the water.
In the early hours of the next morning, around 1 a.m., the search came to a somber conclusion as the young victim’s body was discovered at the bottom of the sea, according to Kuhutan.
