BACOLOD CITY — An 11-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning at home in Barangay Granada here on Wednesday.
Barangay Granada captain Armando Vito, in an interview with Aksyon Radyo Bacolod, said the incident occurred in the middle of a sugarcane field where the victim’s house is located.
Vito said responders were immediately dispatched to the area, but the medic confirmed that the victim showed no signs of life.
According to Vito, the boy was lying on their bed hugging his mother when heavy rainfall occurred in the afternoon, followed by a lightning strike.
He added that the lightning current hit the bamboo wall of the house.
Due to the impact, the victim’s hair was partially burned, his shorts were torn, and he sustained chest injuries.
The boy was the eldest of six children.
This is not the first lightning-related incident in the area, as the victim’s grandfather was also reportedly struck in the past, according to the village chief.
The barangay has offered to extend assistance to the victim’s family.
