BACOLOD CITY – An 11-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning behind his family’s house in Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday.
Police Lt. Col. John Joel Batusbatusan, chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said the victim, a Grade 6 student, had been playing with other children near a santol (cotton fruit) tree when the lightning struck during a sudden rain.
He confirmed that it was raining at the time of the incident.
The child was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, while the other children were unharmed.
Batusbatusan said the incident was reported to police by the victim’s mother on Sunday morning.
