BACOLOD CITY — Eleven people sustained minor injuries after a passenger jeepney flipped on its side in Sitio Mambucano, Barangay Cabatangan, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Monday morning.
Police Maj. Rhazl Jim Jocson, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said the victims were relatives from Pulupandan, Negros Occidental, who had rented the jeepney for a farm outing in Talisay City.
While traveling uphill on a curved road, the 49-year-old driver reportedly experienced mechanical trouble, causing the vehicle to roll backward.
The driver then lost control, and the jeepney overturned.
Jocson said the driver miscalculated the gears when the vehicle failed to shift properly from second to first gear.
All 11 victims received first aid, while three were taken to a hospital and later discharged.
Five of the injured passengers were minors.
The driver was unharmed and is currently in police custody, pending the victims’ decision on whether to file charges.
The jeepney has since been removed from the scene.
