A 10-day gun ban will be enforced across Iloilo City in connection with the Dinagyang Festival 2026.
Philippine National Police Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. confirmed the gun ban during a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Nartatez said he signed the memorandum approving the request for a gun ban on Jan. 6 upon the recommendation of Police Regional Office 6.
However, Iloilo City Police Office chief Col. Kim Legada said he has yet to receive a copy of the memorandum.
The gun ban covers the suspension of all permits to transport and carry firearms outside of residence from 12:01 a.m. Jan. 15 to 11:59 p.m. Jan. 25, 2026.
Under the guidelines, only members of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies performing official duties and wearing prescribed uniforms are allowed to carry firearms.
Legada said the city police will strictly enforce the gun ban, particularly in festival venues, procession routes, and other related events.
He added that police personnel will conduct thorough security checks to ensure compliance with the directive.
Legada said the gun ban is part of the security measures adopted to ensure public safety during the Dinagyang Festival.
