Ten individuals were arrested during a police raid on an illegal cockfighting match on Good Friday, April 3, in Molo, Iloilo City.
Police identified the suspects only by their aliases as Jose, 50; Resty, 49; Jef, 48; and Ronald, 44, all residents of Barangay Pakiad, Oton, Iloilo.
Also arrested were Hard, 45, and Harry, 46, both residents of Barangay Dulonan, Arevalo, Iloilo City.
The other suspects were identified as Stev, 45, and Charlz, 34, both residents of Barangay South San Jose, Molo.
The remaining suspects were Ron, 26, of Barangay South Fundidor, Molo, and Lou, 44, of Barangay Rizal Pala-Pala II, City Proper, Iloilo City.
Personnel from the Iloilo City Police Office City Intelligence Unit, with support from Iloilo City Police Station 4 and the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company, carried out the anti-illegal gambling operation at 11:51 a.m.
In a press statement, the Iloilo City Police Office said the suspects were caught in the act while engaging in illegal cockfighting, locally known as “pauwak.”
Recovered during the operation were six fighting cocks, locally known as jolo, two improvised ring nets, two collapsible chicken cages, and cash bets in various denominations totaling PHP 1,900.
The suspects were placed under the custody of Iloilo City Police Station 4 for proper documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
