ROXAS CITY, Capiz — One man was killed and a police officer was injured in a stabbing incident on Sunday night, September 21, in Sitio Sumiga, Barangay Milibili.
The fatality was identified as Jerry Higo, 41, while the injured officer was PCpl. Kim Alvin Torres, 34, both residents of the area.
PLtCol. Ricardo Jomuad, chief of the Roxas City Police, said Torres was buying from a sari-sari store at around 11:20 p.m. when Higo and an unidentified companion, alias Mitoy, arrived and were believed to be drunk.
Torres, who is assigned to the traffic investigation section of the Roxas City Police, had already paid for his items and was leaving to avoid the intoxicated individuals when Higo allegedly stabbed him on the left side of his chest.
The officer ran to his nearby home to seek help from his wife, but Higo reportedly followed him and attempted another attack.
A struggle over the knife occurred, and Torres managed to overpower Higo, fatally stabbing him in the process.
Bystanders rushed Higo to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, where he was declared dead at around 2:30 a.m. on September 22.
Torres was brought to Saint Anthony Hospital and remains confined as of this writing.
The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
