BACOLOD City – An elderly man died while three others were injured after they figured in a multiple collision at Barangay Mansilingan here Monday morning.
Killed was Diosdado Jurada, 62, of the said village.
Wounded were passenger jeepney driver Buenaventura Lizada Jr., and his two female adult passengers.
Police Major Carmelo Nermal, head of Police Station 7, said the jeepney was supposed to pick up Jurada when the wing van truck driven by Remar Navan, 20, of Barangay Bacong, Bago City, Negros Occidental allegedly hit the rear part of the vehicle loaded with seven passengers.
After hitting the jeepney, the jeepney also reportedly hit a mini dump truck loaded with sand and soil which was parked at the roadside.
Nermal said Navan fled because of fear but he later surrendered to the police, after a few hours.
The three wounded victims were rushed to a hospital.
Nermal said the wing van truck encountered mechanical trouble which caused the collision. The jeepney and the wing van truck were on its way to Murcia town.
“It’s possible that Navan was speeding since the vehicles were wrecked due to the impact,” he added.
Navan is under police custody and will be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to properties.
