WVSU Sports Director holds Guimaras online chess tourney

West Visayas State University’s (WVSU) Sports Director Dr. Richard Gabayoyo will be organizing an online chess tournament as a treat to Guimarasnons on April 10, 2021.

Also the founder and main organizer of the Guimaras Players’ Center Sports Academy, Dr. Gabayoyo will be bringing joy to chess enthusiasts especially the kids.

There will be two main open categories: one which is limited to players 13-18 years old and another from 3 years old to 12 years old. Both categories are open to all Guimarasnons.

Dr. Gabayoyo confirmed to the Daily Guardian that all aspiring participants can join for free without registration.

The tournament’s chief arbiter will be Fritz Bryan Porras, a national chess master and a member of the Iloilo Kisela Knights who recently won third place in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines {PCAP}.

“This is an invitation to all chess enthusiasts sa Guimaras to join this year’s Players’ Center Sports Academy online chess tournament. For more than a year nga wala gd kita sporting events, we are now promoting sports through online as a way also para maka adapt sa new normal. We welcome all Guimarasnons to join,” said Dr. Gabayoyo in an exclusive interview with the Daily Guardian.
