THE Western Visayas Blue Barons maintained their remarkable performances in various ball games of the ongoing 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City last May 1.

Representing Hercor College of Roxas City, the region’s secondary boys’ basketball team has reached the quarterfinals round after defeating SOCCSKSARGEN (Region 12), 81-79.

Western Visayas’ tower of power, Raffy Arguelles, released a buzzer-beater from the three-point arc to seal the team’s victory.

The secondary boys’ football represented by Barotac Nuevo Comprehensive National High School (BNCNHS) and selected players from Iloilo City and Negros Occidental also advanced to the semifinals.

The booters of head coach Domingo Subo blanked Bicol Region in the quarterfinals, 1-0. The team also forced a 1-1 draw against Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in the elimination round. They also blasted CARAGA (Region 13), 4-1; Ilocos Region, 8-0; and posted a scoreless draw against Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9).

WV footballers face a tough challenge from last year’s silver medalist Calabarzon (Region 4B) today.

Subo said today’s match will be a tough one since their opponents are represented by San Beda College, which are good in both offense and defense.

“We will give them a good fight. Last year we fell short of getting a medal in Ilocos but now, we are one game away from reaching it. Our players prepared well in this year’s Palaro and we will play our hearts out,” he added.

The secondary girls’ volleyball bannered by Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) is also unbeaten in the tournament. The team’s latest victim was Region II which suffered a 25-14, 25-14 defeat. Erika Deloria provided the sparks for the Bacolod City-based team after her stunning spikes and blocks.
