A 49-year-old woman cheated death despite being repeatedly shot in broad daylight at Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan.

Riding-in-tandem gunmen allegedly tried to kill Rossini Max Zaldivia around 8:30 a.m. of Sept. 12, 2019.

The victim, together with her elder sister, Leny Bigcas Zaldivia, was walking on Enriquez Road, just several meters from her house, when the incident happened.

A witness claimed that a black motorcycle was already parked in the area even before the victim passed by.

Wearing a jacket, a half-face crash helmet and a mask, the back rider alighted and shot the victim but his gun went dud.

This gave Zaldivia a chance to quickly seek refuge in a drainage canal.

The gunman shot Zaldivia twice but missed. He immediately boarded his motorcycle and fled.

At the time of the incident, Zaldivia was on her way to attend a court hearing at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 3 in Kalibo, Aklan.

She allegedly filed a case against her husband for violation of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004).

Zaldivia was brought to Panay Health Care MPC Hospital and was later transferred to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital for treatment of scratch wounds.

It was not yet known if the case she filed has something to do with the incident.

Others claimed of a possible love triangle as the motive of the case.
