Woman sued for power theft nabbed

A woman accused of power theft was arrested afternoon of Feb 20 in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Police identified the suspect as Jessica Valencia, 39, a resident of Old Airport Road, Barangay Sta. Rosa, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Members of the Iloilo City Police Station 5, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Iloilo City Field Unit, and the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company, arrested the suspect 2:45 p.m. Sunday at Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao.

Police operatives served against Valencia an arrest warrant for violation of The Anti-Pilferage of Electricity and Theft of Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Act of 1994) docketed as Criminal Case No. 22-87146.

Judge Emerald Contreras of the Regional Trial Court (RTC)-6 Branch 23 in Iloilo City issued the arrest warrant and recommended a P72,000 bail.

Records from MORE Power and Electric Corporation showed that the company sent demand letters to 1,460 individuals for alleged power pilferage as of 2021.

1,117 individuals have agreed for a settlement or compromise agreement, as of February 17, 2022.

On the other hand, 202 cases were endorsed to external lawyer for filing of cases.

Apparently, Valencia was one of those 202 individuals.
