A 22-year-old woman died in an case of suicide afternoon of Oct. 3, 2019 inside her boarding at Barangay Calumpang, Molo, Iloilo City.

Alias Gigi, a native of Antique province, reportedly tied a nylon cord around her neck and latched it to her double-deck bed.

The victim’s board mates discovered the incident around 5 p.m. of Thursday. She was rushed to The Medical City but she did not pull through

The motive for the purported suicide remains unclear but she reportedly scribbled something on her notebook that might shed light on the incident.

The victim was taking up architecture in a university in Iloilo City.

Meanwhile, a 69-year-old man also died after he jumped off a bridge in Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo.

It is believed that the victim deliberately leaped for his death.

His wife claimed that he also attempted to jump off the same bridge the previous day.

The victim was allegedly a stroke victim and had been complaining of headaches since.

He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

In the Philippines, the passage of Republic Act 11036 (The Mental Health Law) was aimed at addressing concerns on mental health and suicide incidents.

The law proposes a mental health policy that aims to enhance integrated mental health services, the promotion of mental health services, protection of people who use said services, and the establishment of a Philippine mental health council.

The Department of Health has established suicide prevention hotlines in the country.
