BACOLOD City – A village chief in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental was arrested after he allegedly shot a man using a loose firearm when he responded to a commotion at the said village last Sunday.
Arrested was village chief Aser Dimasuay, 62 of Brgy. 3-Poblacion.
Police Captain Hancel Lumandaz, town police chief, said barangay watchmen informed Dimasuay about a commotion, thus he immediately responded to the area.
Lumandaz said that Dimasuay tried to pacify Edmund Parroco Jr., 30, of Barangay Miranda when the latter, who was armed with a knife, allegedly chased and slit the neck of 30-year-old Richie Agbon who just passed by the area.
But instead of submitting himself to the village chief, Parroco allegedly tried to attack Dimasuay, prompting the latter to shoot him with a .45-caliber pistol.
When the police arrived, Dimasuay surrendered his firearm, as he failed to present valid permits for the gun, Lumandaz said.
Agbon sufferd a minor injury on his neck, while Parroco suffered a lone gunshot wound in the stomach. Both wounded individuals were taken to La Carlota City Hospital.
Lumandaz said Parroco was having a drinking session with some companions when he saw Agbon pass by them.
“Indi man sila kilalahay, daw tripping lang guro ni Parroco,” he added.
Lumandaz said Parroco and Agbon has initially settled the incident, but Dimasuay may be charged for frustrated murder in relation to Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law.
