An incumbent village official was arrested following a firearm raid in Dingle, Iloilo on May 6, 2019.

Police collared Barangay Captain Carlito Jubelag, 52, at his residence in Abangay village.

Joint elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Region 6, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO)-Provincial Intelligence Branch (IPPO-PIB), PHPT-Iloilo, Dingle Police Station, and the Regional Maritime Unit 6-601st Maritime Police Station, searched Jubelag’s house.

The search was authorized by Search Warrant No. 19-114 issued on May 3, 2019 by Regional Trial Court Branch 68 Judge Domingo Casiple Jr. based in PD Montfort North, Dumangas, Iloilo.

The CIDG-led operation recovered a homemade 12-gauge shotgun, a magazine and 10 ammunition of 12-gauge shotgun, a caliber .38 revolver with three ammunition, and a gun holster.

Police Colonel Benliner Capili, CIDG regional director, said the operation against Jubelag is part of their campaign on Oplan Paglalansag.

Meanwhile, Police Captain Fernando Punzalan, Jr., Dingle police chief, said that the suspect had no previous police records. But there was one instance where he was reported to have been brandishing a firearm.

No formal complaint or criminal case was slapped against him, though.

“He was a known disciplinarian in their area. Even his brothers are not spared from getting disciplined,” Punzalan said.

Police also did not receive any complaint for indiscriminate firing against Jubelag.

Jubelag is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act).
