THE University of Sto. Tomas is the overall champion in the Mayor Braeden John Q. Biron Inter-Collegiate Football Invitational Tournament 2019 after defeating University of Negros Occidental-Recolletos, 2-0, at the Barotac Nuevo municipal football field on June 11.

Conrado Demacali scored the first goal for UST 10 minutes into the game while Glenn Thomas Ramos sealed the win for the team in the 29th minute.

For the rest of the game, all UST had to do was stave off attempts by UNO-R to score.

While UST is based in Metro Manila, Ilonggo talent was still very much part of their victory thanks to their coach, former national player Marjo Allado, who is a son of Barotac Nuevo.

While they missed the chance to play in the finals, Barotac Nuevo National Comprehensive High School (BNNCHS) salvaged their town’s pride by winning third place at the expense of Arellano University (AU), 1-0.

Francis Mahinay scored the winning goal for BNNCHS 32 minutes into the game.

UST reached the finals after beating AU, 2-0, last June 10. The leaned on the heroics of Silas J. Valladolid-Collins (10th minute), and Daniel Martey (20th minute) to grab one of the finals slot.

UNO-R defeated BNNCHS, 1-0, to earn a finals berth, thanks to Jason Juayang’s lone goal in the 52nd minute of the game.
