UPV LP pilots 8-Week English at Workplace Training for CAS workers

University of the Philippines Visayas Language Program (UPV LP) recently concluded its first-ever webinar series to train the UPV College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) employees in English communications at the workplace.

The eight-week webinar series dubbed “English at the Workplace” is a remote learning skills enhancement training designed to provide UPV employees and staff with opportunities to review and harness their communication skills in English, particularly in technical writing and speaking.

Ms. Gerthrode Charlotte Tan-Mabilog, faculty from UP High School Iloilo, and Ms. Elaine Logronio-Monserate, Instructor 2, UPV-CAS Division of Humanities, shared their knowledge and expertise as resource persons to this webinar series. The training started last June 30, 2021, and ended on August 18, 2021.

“The webinar is also one way to have a break from stressful and tiring office work. It served as an ice breaker to our routine tasks and heavy workloads in the office and work-from-home set-up,” said Joelie Nono, Admin Staff from the Division of Humanities, one of the participants.

UPV LP also shared plans of extending the conduct of the program to other departments and colleges in the university and institutions, public or private, outside UPV.

“I believe that the University of the Philippines Visayas, as a national university, will continue to give its best to serve the public. We have to keep on upgrading ourselves and accept opportunities to enhance our skills and talents,” explained Asst. Prof. Jessie Labiste, Jr. faculty in charge of the UPV LP.  (Ms. Rhea Sevillo, Division of Humanities)
