UP Student Regent brings campus consultation series to UPV

The University of the Philippines Office of the Student Regent held its Iloilo City arm of the Balik UP! Systemwide Onground Campus Consultations last April 21, 2022 at the UP Visayas Auditorium to talk to UPV students from the Iloilo City and Miagao campuses.

Student Regent Renee Louise Co provided the UP situationer to re-orient UPV students of their roles, the national university’s history, and students’ rights.

She said that the event is a way to help assess preparations, willingness, and needs for the safe re-opening of schools, commonly dubbed as “Ligtas na Balik Eskwela.”

The UPV University Student Council, as well as representatives from the various college student councils, attended the event physically and virtually.

UPV USC councilor Phillippe Tanchuan Hiñosa provided details of students’ concerns through the UPV situationer. The OSR then initiated an open consultation with the attendees.

Among the concerns discussed were the call to open libraries, the creation of more learning hubs, and the conduct of face-to-face graduation.

After the event, the Student Regent, together with the representatives of the UPV USC and college student councils, paid a courtesy call to UPV Chancellor, Dr. Clement Camposano.

They discussed with the Chancellor the various concerns collated during the consultation.

The Student Regent also disclosed to the student body and the Chancellor her call for “no to vaccine mandates,” health insurance provision, and re-channeling of funds for health and education.

Both sides made commitments to ensure that concerns are addressed. (Carlson B. Alelis, IPO)
