BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer confirmed on July 9, 2019 that their group United Negros Alliance (UNegA) will field a candidate for president of the Philippines Councilors’ League (PCL)-Negros Occidental chapter.

Ferrer, UNegA chairman, told reporters here that they will be fielding Arturo “Atoy” Maranon, son of former Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., for the PCL presidency.

Arturo is the younger brother of Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III.

Ferrer succeeded the former governor chairman of UNegA.

Whoever will be elected president will represent the councilors’ league in the provincial board.

Earlier reports indicated that a clash between Love Negros Team of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and the United Negros Alliance over the PCL-Negros Occidental presidency is inevitable.

PCL president Macho Alonso is set to vacate the post after he won as Board Member representing the 6th district of the province.

Lacson told Aksyon Radyo that Love Negros Team will have a candidate for the PCL presidency from the 6th district.

Both UNegA and Love Negros Team forged an alliance in the 2019 midterm elections under the tandem of Lacson for governor and former congressman Jeffrey Ferrer for vice governor

“Definitely, we will field a candidate,” Ferrer said.

The PCL election will be held in September 2019.
