BACOLOD City – A man and his son, both councilmen of Barangay Kalamtukan in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, were shot to death by two unidentified persons at Sitio Napac-an, Barangay Kalumboyan Thursday morning.

Killed were Felipe Condez Jr., 60, a former barangay captain; and his son Jonesis Condez, 31.

Police Colonel Julian Entoma, director of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo), said the two victims were riding a motorcycle on their way home around 10:30 a.m. when the assailants on another motorcycle tailed them.

Entoma said the gunmen then repeatedly shot the victims until they fell to the road.

Then the gunmen disembarked from their motorcycle and shot the victims again several times which caused their immediate death.

Entoma said more than 10 empty shells of M16 rifle and .45-caliber ammunitions were recovered from the crime scene.

He said they are eyeing family dispute as possible angle in the killing because of a misunderstanding in the family.

“We have persons of interest but we cannot disclose their names yet while we are still investigating the incident,” he added.

The provincial police director also dismissed reports that the incident was insurgency-related.
