BACOLOD City – The Cabacungan Elementary School (CES) and the Cabacungan National High School (CNHS) will finally have their own lots after the local government of La Castellana, Negros Occidental donated their respective school sites.

Both schools are located at Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana town.

Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan spearheaded the signing of the deed of donation Friday afternoon together with CES principal Florijyll Villar, CNHS principal Zalde Rodrigo, Ma Theresa Elbabuena, principal in charge of District of La Castellana; Vice Mayor Manuel Vera, members of the municipal council, and Leo Talaban, president of the Parents Teachers Association.

The event also kicked off the Brigada Eskwela activity for 2021 themed “Bayanihan para sa Paaralan.”

“It was a long wait for them,” Mangilimutan told reporters.

She said the process dated back to more than a decade as the land titles for both school sites had to be separated from the mother title.

They also had to contend with informal settlers in the area.

Mangilimutan also thanked the municipal council for authorizing her to sign the deed of donation.

Villar said she is thankful that CES now owns the school site as they can now undertake improvements to further provide a better learning environment when the face-to-face learning resumes.

She said it is difficult to make improvements when the ownership of the school site is in question.
