BACOLOD City – Two persons died while another was wounded in separate road accidents here and in Negros Occidental last Friday.

In Pulupandan town, 28-year-old Gilbert Dumasig died while his companion Richard Jamora, 18, was wounded after a pick-up truck collided with their motorcycle in Barangay Patic.

Police Staff Sergeant Tirso Flores, traffic investigator of Pulupandan Municipal Police Station, said both victims were on their way to a bakery in Valladolid town, while the pick-up truck was on its way to Pulupandan town proper.

But the pick-up truck allegedly overtook a tricycle parked in the area, causing its driver to lose control and collided with the motorcycle, Flores said.

Both motorcycle riders were taken to Valladolid District Hospital but Dumasig passed away several hours later, while Jamora was transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

Flores said that Dumasig’s family through his wife agreed to an initial settlement with the pickup driver.

Meanwhile, an elderly man died after he was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) along the Circumferential road in Barangay Villamonte here.

Police Corporal Aaron Priolo, traffic investigator of Police Station 4, identified the victim as Sim Ballares, 66, of the said village.

Priolo said the victim was covered by a truck while he was crossing the street. Thus, the driver of a Toyota Revo failed to notice him.

The SUV driver tried to avoid the victim, but it was already too late. He died on the spot.

Priolo said there was already an initial settlement between the driver and the victim’s family.
