BACOLOD City – Two persons were dead in separate shooting and stabbing incidents in Negros Occidental in the past two days.

In Sipalay City, a man was gunned down by four unidentified armed men while he was on his way to a sugarcane plantation at Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City Wednesday morning.

Killed was Amid Panangganan, 44, of the said village.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Necerato Sabando Jr., city police chief, said the victim was walking with three others when the gunmen approached them and suddenly shot him.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds while his companions were unharmed. “He was really the target of the perpetrators,” Sabando said.

Police recovered from the scene four empty shells of .45-caliber ammunition.

Sabando said they have yet to determine the motive for the killing, but it could be something personal. He also cannot say if it was insurgency-related amid reports that the area is considered rebel-infested.

In San Carlos City, Estelito Saylo-on Jr., 56, of Barangay Prosperidad was allegedly stabbed to death by siblings – Daniel Embalsado, 50, and Rubin Embalsado, 38.

Police records showed that the victim was on his way home when he was waylaid by the two suspects, who attacked him with a bladed weapon, and fled.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
