Two dead in road crash, drowning

ROXAS CITY, Capiz— Two persons died in a road mishap and a drowning incident over the weekend.

Roy Espiritu, 39, of Brgy. Ilas Sur in Dao town died after his motorcycle crashed into a car Sunday evening at Barangay Cagay here.

Police Corporal Ben Angelo Celino, the traffic investigator of Roxas City Police Station, said car driver Juliet Carcedo, 38, and her two minor children, all residents of Brgy. Liong here, saw the motorcycle zig-zagging on the road.

Carcedo said she tried to evade the victim but to no avail.

Espiritu succumbed to fatal head injuries and was declared dead at Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.

Carcedo voluntarily surrendered to the police but she was taken for hospital arrest after suffering from chest pains.

Meanwhile, a Grade 9 student drowned to death while swimming in Badbaran River at Sitio Caladman, Barangay Astorga, Dumarao.

Josh, 17, of Barangay Mahunod-hunod, Cuartero and his classmates went to the river for a school movie project.

Part of the taping was for the group to swim in the river. Josh jumped into the river but failed to surface.

His classmates immediately jumped in to rescue him but it was too late.

The victim was taken to the town hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
