BACOLOD City – Two cousins were killed after their motorcycle allegedly collided with a truck at Barangay Minapasuk, Calatrava, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

Police Staff Sergeant Jun-Jun Flores, traffic investigator, identified the fatalities as Pedro Pesanon, 33; and Junryl Yangyang, 34, both residents of the said village.

Flores said Pesanon was driving the motorcycle and was allegedly speeding on their way home when he reportedly overtook a tricycle and collided with a truck driven by Ariel Paner, of Barangay Marcelo.

The two victims suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. Both were not wearing helmets, Flores said.

Flores said the victims were reportedly under the influence of alcohol after coming from a birthday party, but they cannot confirm it.

Flores said Paner fled fearing for his safety but surrendered to the police two hours later after he went home and informed his family about the accident.

He will be released from police custody after the 18-hour reglementary detention.

Flores said the victims’ family also initially agreed to have a settlement with the truck driver.
