Two CFOS faculty members earn UP Scientist rank

Associate Professor Sheila Mae Santander-de Leon and Prof. Rex Ferdinand M. Traifalgar

The UP Board of Regents (BOR) conferred UP Scientist ranks to two faculty members of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) for CY 2021-2023.

Associate Professor Sheila Mae Santander-de Leon and Prof. Rex Ferdinand M. Traifalgar were among the faculty members approved with the award to the UP Scientific Productivity System (SPS) by the BOR during its 1372nd meeting on July 28, 2022.

A director of the Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology, de Leon was awarded as UP Scientist 1 while Traifalgar, director of the Institute of Aquaculture, retained his award as UP Scientist III.

Both were the awardees from UP Visayas for said period.

Approved by the BOR in its 1199th meeting on August 2005, the SPS supports the advancement of science and technology as well as encourages and rewards scientific productivity of deserving faculty and research staff in the University.

Faculty members and researchers from CFOS who were also recipients of this award in the past were Prof. Jose P. Peralta, Asso. Prof. Sharon N. Nuñal, Prof. Ricardo P. Babaran, Prof. August E. Serrano Jr., Prof. Harold M. Monteclaro, Prof. Liberato V. Laureta, Jr., and Prof. Glenn D. Aguilar. (Lenilyn Gallos/CFOS)
