Trader nabbed for hot guns

A businessman was arrested for possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Calinog, Iloilo morning of Dec. 6, 2019.

Police identified the suspect as Joel Alimagno, 55, a hardware store owner and resident of Barangay Poblacion, Calinog.

Members of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office – Special Operations Group and Calinog Police Station stormed the suspect’s residence by virtue of Search Warrant No. 19-17 issues by Judge Gemalyn Faunillo Tarol of the Regional Trial Court 6 (RTC-6) Branch 31, Iloilo City.

Raising policemen recovered a caliber .22 rifle, two caliber .45 pistols, a caliber .9mm pistol, a caliber .38 revolver, two magazine and five ammunition for caliber .45 pistol, a magazine and six ammunition for caliber .9mm pistol, and three ammunition for 22-gauge shotgun.

Police Major Jonathan Pinuela, IPPO-SOG chief, said the raid was an offshoot of several complaints that the suspect had been indiscriminate firing his gun.

Alimagno is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
