ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The municipality of Sigma, Capiz is mulling to construct a public cemetery as the existing graveyard has no more space for additional tombs.

Mayor Christopher Andaya said they plan to borrow P37 million from a bank to finance the construction of the public cemetery in a lot purchased during the administration of his mother, former mayor Mary Andaya, 10 years ago.

The lot was originally meant for the town’s Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) and eco-park.

Andaya said the present cemetery only has 10 available tombs.

The new cemetery project is also an economic enterprise that can generate income for the loan payments.

The proposed loan is payable in 15 years with the monthly amortization to be drawn from the town’s 20 percent development fund.
