Town employee faces raps for ‘shooting’ cop

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 36-year-old regular employee of the local government unit of Pontevedra, Capiz is facing criminal charges for allegedly shooting a police officer who wanted to respond to a fracas early Sunday morning at Brgy. Agbalo Panay, Capiz.

Police Master Sergeant Rey Falco of Panay Municipal Police Station, will be filing alarm and scandal, direct assault in person to authority, and attempted homicide against Jemar Tupaz Dumali of Brgy. Tacas, Pontevedra, Capiz.

Investigation by Panay police indicated that Dumali figured in an altercation with his older brother Noel, 41, at the national highway in Brgy. Agbalo.

A team of police officers on board a patrol car responded to the trouble. But Jemar, who was observed to be drunk, drew a firearm and shot his brother on the left leg.

When Falco shouted at the suspect that they were officers, the suspect also shot them. Fortunately, he missed the police officer.

The suspect ran but he was subdued and arrested with the help of some volunteers.

Noel was immediately taken to Bailan District Hospital.

It was learned that the older brother will not press charges against the suspect.
