BACOLOD City – Some affected residents of Sitio Manaol, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental were told to leave the danger zone area following incidents of soil erosion and cracked soil in the area recently.

Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo, along with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) went to the said area last Tuesday to inspect the damage brought about by heavy rains in the past weeks.

Upon their assessment, there’s a possibility of a landslide if rain will continue to occur in the coming days or weeks. Initially, 18 households might be affected if a landslide will occur.

According to the mayor, the people should be isolated from the said area for their safety.

Residents who may not have relatives or homes to stay in temporarily can transfer to the evacuation center.

In 2009, the same incident was reported wherein the area was suspected to have a fault line.

Currently, the local government is preparing the evacuation center for the affected residents and discussed possible measures to contain the situation.
