Three GSP National Awards for Iloilo Girl Scout Council

Three outstanding women from the Iloilo Girl Scout Council were recently recognized for their excellence in Girl Scouting.

This was officially announced by Mrs. Susan R. Locsin, National President of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) during the benefit dinner for the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Iloilo Girl Scout Council which was attended by about 200 girl scouts of all ages, including Council partners and affiliate agencies.

The awardees were Jeneth Zante from Central Philippine University as Outstanding District Field Adviser; Fatima Esmalla from Colegio de San Jose as Outstanding Troop Leader; and Cadet Girl Scout Honey Parreño from Cadet Troop No. 312 of Central Philippine University.

GSP grants three distinct recognitions annually by naming the Outstanding Girl Scout, the Outstanding Troop Leader, and the Outstanding District Field Adviser.

Iloilo GSC President Gudelia Coo elatedly revealed that this is the first time for the Council to get three awards in the same year. She added that being a dedicated Girl Scout is already a personal accomplishment and receiving the national awards is a fulfilling validation of their efforts.

The awardees received a Josefa Llanes Escoda trophy and travel grants for international events. These were conferred during the Central Board Meeting and Recognition for Excellence in Girl Scouting Award Ceremony on February 1, 2020 at the Josefa Llanes Escoda Hall, Girl Scouts of the Philippines National Headquarters in Manila.

Iloilo GSC Council Executive Marie Claire Laru-an emphasized that the goal of the Council is to produce more outstanding women who are deserving of this recognition and for them to have more opportunities in Girl Scouting not only in local events but also international gatherings.
