ROXAS CITY, Capiz— Three construction workers have been stranded for almost a week now at the border of Capiz and Iloilo provinces because of the lockdown at Barangay Aglalana, Dumarao as part of measures against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.

The three workers are Isidro Amaba, Arnolfo Crespo and Carlito Ebron, all residents of Brgy. Balucuan, Sigma, Capiz.

They came from Iloilo but were not allowed to pass through Dumarao because of the lockdown.

The workers are sleeping in a tent made of “trapal” and sacks. They also complained of having no food and money to sustain their daily needs.

The provincial government of Capiz through Gov. Esteban Evan Nonoy Contreras visited the workers and gave the relief packs. Officials of Sigma towns also extended help.

Meanwhile, five construction workers were able to slip through the border security checkpoints in Sapian-Altavas, Aklan.

According to them, they dismounted from the vehicle one by one before reaching the checkpoint located at the border of Altavas, Aklan and Brgy. Damayan Sapian, Capiz.

The five pretended to buy something in a store while passing by the checkpoint and went home onboard another vehicle.

The five are now under home quarantine in Brgy. Dinginan here and are set to submit themselves to the health authorities.
