The San Miguel Beermen will be dealing with a major setback in their quest of reclaiming the PBA championship after superstar Terrence Romeo will be out indefinitely due to a back injury.

It was San Miguel’s head coach Leo Austria who confirmed the recent development after the flashy guard was absent during the PBA Media Day.

Austria specified that Romeo is still dealing with recurring back spasms and wasn’t able to join their recent team practices for the past weeks.

“Mga four weeks na siyang not practicing with us dahil nahihirapan siya tumayo. Kapag spasms sa lower back mo, every movement involved yan, so mahirap,” said Austria.

This is already Romeo’s third injury-plagued conference after suffering a dislocated shoulder last 2020 PBA Philippine Cup and a knee injury the conference after.

Romeo’s presence will be badly missed by the Beermen especially his scoring prowess that complements Chris Ross’ defensive style of play in the backcourt.

After the Beermen traded Alex Cabagnot to the Terrafirma Dyip, Romeo became their main scoring guard aside from CJ Perez who naturally plays the shooting guard position.

As of this time, Austria and the San Miguel management are still uncertain regarding Romeo’s timetable to return for the upcoming season.

“We don’t know yet how many games. We’re giving him ample time to recover one hundred percent. He was advised by the doctors to rest. Nasa bahay lang siya,” added Austria.
