Teen yields after stabbing construction worker to death

A teenage boy owned up to the killing of a 20-year-old construction worker Sunday evening in Arevalo, Iloilo City.

Bong (not his real name), 15, voluntarily surrendered Monday evening to Iloilo City Police Station 6.

Bong told police authorities that he did not plan to kill Roger Hudtohan Jr., a resident of Zone 14, Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo.

Major Chen Tañagras, ICPS6 chief, said the fight between the two started when they accidentally bumped into each other after attending separate birthday parties.

Since they were friends, Bong claimed he did not think that it would offend Hudtohan.

He apologized but the victim asked him, “Makasà ka? (You want to fight?)”

When Bong answered in the negative, Hudtohan punched him.

The suspect claimed they then traded punches.

But their fight went a notch higher when the victim allegedly pulled a knife.

The suspect kicked Hudtohan until the latter fell. He then grappled for the victim’s knife.

Shortly later, he claimed that he saw blood on his hand and shirt. The victim also loosened his grip on him.

Bong claimed he then saw the knife stuck to Hudtohan’s back. He pulled it off and hid it under the sack then fled.

Police found the weapon during their investigation.

Tañagras said a murder case was already filed against the suspect.

Hudtohan was last seen alive while walking in an alley around 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

Another witness claimed to have seen what appeared to be two persons grappling for something before Hudtohan’s body was discovered slumped on the pavement.

He was taken to Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
