BACOLOD City – A 17-year-old girl died after she was stabbed by her cousin due to purported gossiping at Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental last Monday.

Police withheld the names of the victim and the 16-year-old suspect.

Police Captain Rhojn Darell Nigos, La Castellana town police chief, said the suspect invited her cousin to a walk from a computer shop.

But when they arrived at the secluded part of the village, the suspect allegedly confronted the victim about rumors the latter was reportedly spreading.

After the confrontation, the suspect who was armed with a knife allegedly stabbed the victim several times, Nigos said.

Early the following day, the suspect and her father went to the police station to report the incident.

Nigos said the suspect confessed to the police that anger triggered her to allegedly commit the crime. She also told the police that she slapped the victim before she stabbed her.

When police responded, the victim was found lifeless on the ground.

Nigos said they are waiting for the result of the postmortem examination to determine the injuries of the victim.

“Depende abi kung basi may hard object man hitting her head, aside from the stab wounds,” he added.

Nigos said the suspect is now in the custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, pending further investigation and possible filing of case.
