Teen helper dies, five injured in road collision

BACOLOD City – A 19-year-old boy was killed while five others were wounded in a road collision in Barangay 5, Victorias City, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Police identified the fatality as Jun Jun Milleza, 19, of Cadiz City, a helper of a refrigerated van.

Wounded were Gimbo Escordial, 40, of Cadiz City, Francis Poral, 48, of Victorias City, and his helpers – Ireneo Demapanag, 29, Jun Art Advincula, 25, and Jilson Morgiya, 19, all residents of E.B. Magalona town.

Police Staff Sergeant Fredrick John Muñoz, traffic investigator of Victorias City Police Station, said Escordial lost control of the refrigerated van he drove.

The van then swerved, fell on its side, and skidded towards a dump truck driven by Poral on the opposite lane, Muñoz added.

Muñoz said that Poral was on his way to deliver sand in Manapla town when the accident happened.

Milleza was declared dead on arrival at a hospital while Escordial is confined in a hospital here, according to Muñoz.

Muñoz said that Poral and his three helpers suffered minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital.

He said that Poral is detained at the police station and will be released if no charges will be filed against him within the 18-hour reglementary detention.
