Tay Tung, Silay clinch two wins in volley tilt

The volleyball teams of Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) and Silay opened the JGM Finance Corp 17-Under Girls’ Invitational Volleyball Tournament with convincing victories at the BTTHS covered gym, May 15, 2019.

The host team used their home court advantage to upset California Academy in Pool B, 28-26, 25-23.

Fresh from winning the silver medal in the secondary girls’ volleyball in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa in Davao City, Tay Tung B pulled off their second win at the expense of University of St. La Salle – Bacolod in Pool A, 25-19, 12-25, 25-20.

Meanwhile, Silay volleybelles also made an emphatic performance in the opener after posting two victories. They toppled Siliman University in two sets, 33-31, 25-18, before finishing Talisay, 25-11, 25-21.

Talisay retaliated by dismantling Bayawan in two sets, 25-23, 25-17. Siliman also bounced back and handed Bayawan its second defeat, 25-11, 25-17. 

In Pool B, Tanjay outmuscled Negros Occidental High School (NOHS), 25-19, 25-12; but the former lost its second game to Tay Tung, 25-17, 27-25, 25-16.

La Carlota registered a pair of victories after blasting Don Bosco, 25-15, 25-17 and NOHS, 25-12, 25-9. USLS-Bacolod scored 25-15, 25-17 to beat Don Bosco in the last match. 

A total of 12 teams are competing in the preliminary rounds- Bacolod Tay Tung High School-A, Bayawan, California Academy, Silay, Siliman University, Talisay, Bacolod Tay Tung High School-B, Bingawan, Don Bosco, La Carlota, Tanjay, NOHS, and the University of St. La Salle.
