Tanod shot dead in Antique

A BARANGAY tanod (village watchman) was gunned down by still unidentified assailant early morning of April 30, 2019 at Barangay Bagongbayan, Laua-an, Antique.

Crispolo Jereza, 48, of Barangay Guisijan, Laua-an, Antique, was about to board his motorcycle around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday when he was repeatedly shot.

He was hit on different parts of his body and brought to Bugasong Medicare Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Witnesses said the gunman fled towards Laua-an town.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Rosales, Laua-an police chief and concurrent head of the Antique Police Provincial Office (AnPPO) Police Community Relations Section, Jereza attended the pre-fiesta celebration at Bagongbayan when the incident happened.

He was about to go home when the gun attack happened.

No witness came forward out to identify the gunman.

Rosales said they are considering several motives in the killing.

“But we’re looking at the possibility that he was killed due to personal grudges,” he said.

The victim was a former driver-bodyguard of Laua-an Mayor Francisco Baladjay Jr. He was also accused of killing at least three persons.

Rosales said Jerezo skirted murder charges because all three cases were settled.
