BACOLOD City – A village watchman was wounded after he was shot in a cock farm at Sitio Kalimbuhan, Barangay Quezon, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental yesterday.

Police identified the victim as Cesario Villafuerte, 57, of the said village.

Police Lieutenant Ruby Aurita, deputy police chief of San Carlos City Police Station, said the cock farm owner asked Villafuerte to temporarily accompany his caretaker following a theft incident the previous night.

Villafuerte was asleep when he was awakened by barking dogs.

When he went out to check, 23-year-old Benjamin Quirante suddenly appeared in front of him, and allegedly shot him in the forehead for still undetermined reason.

Aurita said the victim has identified the suspect, who is still at large.

Police could not yet determine the motive of Quirante, who has records for theft in the area, according to some residents.

The victim is recuperating at a hospital.
