Tanod hangs self

A barangay tanod (village watchman) committed suicide evening of Jan 2, 2022 in Oton, Iloilo.

The 55-year-old victim (identity withheld) was found hanging from a talisay tree at Barangay San Nicolas, Oton, around 7:30 p.m. Sunday

A 60-year-old man found the victim’s body. He then informed the victim’s relatives about the incident.

The relatives immediately went to the area and took the body home.

Responding members of the Oton Search and Rescue team took the victim to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Hours later, another suicide case was reported in Ungka 1, Pavia, Iloilo.

The 26-year-old victim was declared dead on arrival at Western Visayas Medical Center.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old woman was reported to have attempted suicide over the weekend.

The woman’s 4-year-old daughter discovered her mother hanging inside their house last Sunday.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. at their residence in San Enrique, Iloilo.

She was rushed to Don Valerio Palmares Sr. District Hospital in Passi City where she remains confined.

According to the victim’s family, it was her third attempt to take her own life.

The woman is said to be suffering from nervous breakdown.

Last year, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) recorded 85 suicide incidents. The number is slightly lower from the previous year’s 87 cases.

The Department of Health has constantly reminded those who have problems or those who know individuals who are at risk of committing suicide that they could seek help and mental health crisis intervention.
