A village watchman died following a road crash late evening of December 27 at Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

Jessie Surriga, 38, of barangay tanod commander of Inangayan, Sta. Barbara succumbed to injuries on his head and different parts of his body.

He was rushed to Western Visayas Sanitarium in Sta. Barbara town but did not pull through.

Police accounts claimed that the victim’s motorcycle collided with an Isuzu Crosswind AUV as the former was maneuvering at the U-turn slot in Barangay Cadagmayan, Sta. Barbara.

The AUV driver, Elmer Calitisin, 58, of Barangay Balabag, Pavia, was on his way to fetch someone at the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan town.

Calitisin claimed he did not immediately notice Surriaga, thus the collision.

The suspect was released from police custody after reaching an amicable settlement with the victim’s family.
