BACOLOD City – A suspected thief was shot to death by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants at Barangay RSB, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on July 24.

Killed was Wilfredo de Asis, 45, of the said village.

Investigation showed that de Asis and his companion were drinking coffee in a waiting shed in the village when the assailants arrived.

The motorcycle driver then asked the victim if he was de Asis. When the victim said yes, the suspect shot him thrice.

De Asis’s companion ran towards the store and was unharmed. But he claimed to have seen the gunman allegedly shoot the victim at close range.

The assailants then fled towards Pontevedra town.

Footages from a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera showed an Asian utility vehicle at the crime scene. It is believed that the car served as back-up vehicle for the assailants, who were wearing face masks, black jackets, pants, and black shoes.

Police said the victim was allegedly involved in theft incidents in the said barangay and was accused of stealing fighting cocks in Murcia town.
