BACOLOD City – A suspected drug personality was gunned down in broad daylight by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants at Barangay 6, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental May 5, 2019.

Killed was Elrico Campugan, 41.

Police Lieutenant Colonel D’Artagnan Katalbas Jr., city police chief, said Campugan was walking in an alley when the assailants fired at him. He succumbed to several gunshot wounds.

Police recovered from the scene a slug of .38-caliber ammunition.

Katalbas said the incident might be drug-related.

Police suspect that the victim died because of retaliation, following a buy-bust operation at an inn in Barangay 2 on May 4 which resulted in the recovery of P1.2 million worth of illegal drugs.

He was killed because he might spill something after the arrest of Evonie Bacurnay over the weekend, Katalbas said.

But police are still verifying if Bacurnay, a street level target, and the slain victim were connected to one of the three drug groups in the city.

They have no lead yet on the identities of the perpetrators.
