Student body, university endorse Robredo-Pangilinan tandem

A university and a student body recently endorsed the candidacies of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan for president and vice president, respectively.

The University Students’ Alliance of West Visayas State University (WVSU) has endorsed the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan.

In a Facebook post, the University Students’ Alliance of West Visayas State University (WVSU) decided to back the bid of the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem after discussions and consultations since October 8.

“We believe that our principles as an organization stretches out to the communities we belong to. We believe that LENI-KIKO represent our values as students fighting for what is right, just, humane, and moral. We believe that as student/servant-leaders, LENI-KIKO posses the values of Competence, Responsibility, and Integrity which USA is committed to uphold,” the statement issued Sunday reads.

“Basta taga-West, the best for Leni-Kiko!” they concluded.

The University Students’ Alliance is an eight-year-old political socio-civic organization that stands for student-led servant-leadership anchored on the principles of WVSU, according to its Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Central Philippine University’s Board of Trustees said Vice President Leni Robredo embodies “unquestionable honesty and integrity, free of corruption, with a proven track record of competence” as they back the lone female hopeful’s bid for the presidency.

In a statement, CPU BOT chairman Atty. Peter Irving Corvera, CPU president Dr. Teodoro Robles, and 17 other members endorsed Robredo for president.

“We believe that the future of our country, and that of the next generation, will be greatly determined by our national leadership, particularly our choice of the President of our Republic.”

“Thus, as Trustees of this honorable institution, we cannot remain silent in these critical times,

and it has become incumbent upon us to make our position known in accordance with the

values for which the University stands for,” they added.

In backing Robredo’s candidacy, they stressed the need for “a person of unquestionable honesty and integrity, free of corruption, with a proven track record of competence, authenticity, and transparency; and who will be a model and inspiration to our citizens, particularly our youth.”

The endorsement, according to the volunteer group Robredo 2022 Iloilo, is a “first” in the University’s 117-year history.

The Board of Trustees also said they only see one presidential candidate who exhibits CPU’s values of Faith, Character, Justice, Stewardship, and Excellence “and for that reason, we support and endorse her candidacy as the next President of the Republic of the Philippines.”

Among those who signed the statement were Dr. Elmer Pedregosa, Dr. Carmen Santos, Dr. George Cortel, Atty. Von Lovel Bedona, Dr. Agustin Pulido, Noli Bajada, Josita Alpha Jalando-on, Rev. Dr. Armando Kole, Dr. Oseni Millamena, Dr. Manuel Palada, Rev. Job Santiago, Perla Waters, Dr. Florentino Alerta II, Gabriel Mico Bondoc, Ma. Victoria Bellosillo, Dr. Edgardo Gerada, and Rev. Robredo has enjoyed an outpouring of support from hundreds of current heads of schools, colleges, and universities across the country, including former CHED chairpersons Patricia Licuanan, Angel Alcala, Ateneo de Manila University President Fr. Roberto Yap, De La Salle University President Br. Bernard Oca, and 400 faculty members of the University of Santo Tomas. (Sean Rafio)
