Tim Duncan is reunited with the San Antonio Spurs, the franchise he helped lift for two decades, after he was hired as assistant to head coach Gregg Popovich.

The back-to-back MVP will make his NBA return after three years into retirement.

“It is only fitting, that after I served loyally for 19 years as Tim Duncan’s assistant, that he returns the favor,” Popovich said in an interview.

After giving the silver and black five championships, 18 straight seasons with 50 regular season wins, Duncan will try to help the Spurs by manning the sidelines.

Former Spurs basketball operations intern Will Hardy will also join Duncan as part of the coaching staff.

Popovich stated, “Will Hardy is a talented, young basketball mind who has earned a great deal of respect from everyone in the organization thanks to his knowledge, spirit and personality.”
