A CHINESE national was arrested for allegedly assaulting a member of the Malay Auxiliary Police force in Aklan evening of Sept. 8, 2019.

Denis Chong, 50, was smoking a cigarette at Bloomfield in Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.

This prompted auxiliary police Noly Cuatriz, 27, to warn Chong for violating Malay town’s anti-smoking ordinance (Municipal Ordinance 309 Series 2019).

Chon subsequently flicked his cigarette butt. However, it did not end up on the trash bin but on Cuatriz’s face.

Other members of the Malay Auxillary Police immediately arrested the suspect.

Chong was charged for direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority.

But he was released after posting bail.

Chong is a businessman who reportedly owns a travel agency in Boracay.

In a report earlier this year, the Boracay Tourism Regulatory Enforcement Unit noted that Chinese nationals topped the list of local ordinance violators in the island.

From January to April 2019, Chinese nationals allegedly committed 739 infractions. Tailing them are Korean nationals, locals (Filipinos), Russians, and Taiwanese.
