SanAg turns 115

THe University of San Agustin in Iloilo City is celebrating its 115th foundation anniversary as an educational institution today, July 15, 2019.

This university run by the Order of St. Augustine is an institution in teaching education, pharmacy, medical technology, architecture, and engineering, among others.

This university founded in Virtus et Scientia started as an exclusive school for boys under the name of Colegio de San Agustin Iloilo in July 15, 1904. It earned its university status on March 1, 1953, making it the first university in Western Visayas.

After 115 years, the University of San Agustin is home to 17 accredited programs of the 48 academic programs; 5 colleges and 1 department – College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Education, College of Health and Allied Medical Professions, College of Commerce, College of Technology, College of Law, and Basic Education Department; 4 internationally and nationally acclaimed performing arts groups – the USA Little Theater, USA Choir and Troubadours, Kawilihan-USA and USA Band; 4 Department of Science and Technology Balik-Scientists; 4 Research Centers – Center for Natural Drug Discovery and Development (CND3), Center for Chemical Biology and Biotechnology (C2B2), Center for Heritage and Indigenous Cultures (CHIC), and Center for Informatics (CFI); board topnotchers and bar topnotchers; Palanca awardees, Metrobank Outstanding Teachers, 3 Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations, 5 Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines, among others.

As the University endeavors to achieve more on the succeeding years, it is supported by its alumni who support the University by means of instruction, curriculum development, infrastructure development and the like, government agencies, partner institutions, parents, faculty, administrators, and students.

To commemorate the 115 years of the University, the USA Fountain of Unity will be unveiled today. The unveiling will be led by the prior provincial of the Order of St. Augustine – Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu – Philippines – Fr. Andres Rivera, OSA together with the University President – Fr. Frederick C. Comendador, OSA, and donors.
