San Jose DRRMO shows off disaster response capability

SAN JOSE, Antique – The local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council here afforded the public to see the response capability of the Municipal DRRM Office through an activity dubbed Disaster Preparedness and Response Exhibit.

“The local government of San Jose is now active in disaster preparedness and in responding to any eventualities,” said Mayor Elmer Untaran.

Untaran called on the public to be vigilant for any disaster in order to prevent if not minimize loss of lives, and properties.

He urged everyone to further enhance skills and knowledge about disaster preparedness.

The event is in line with the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month with the theme “Kahandaan sa Sakuna’t Peligro para sa Tunay na Pagbabago.”

MDRRM Officer Alex Crespo said that the event was participated in by partner agencies of MDRRMO such as the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and Kabalikat Civicom 263.

Other highlights include first aid demonstration and distribution of IEC materials.

Crespo said that the very foundation of a prepared LGU is the kind of preparedness of the residents in their everyday efforts to reduce risks and prepare their own local response mechanisms to address disaster emergency situations.

The MDRRM Officer said that disaster rescue equipment are needed in order to boost the LGUs preparedness and resilience.

Meanwhile, Crespo said that  some of the flood-prone areas in San Jose are Barangays Bariri, Supa, Inabasan, Bugarot, Cansadan, Tubudan, San Pedro and Durog, among others. (PIA)
